Menorah Created by Chayim Aryeh Seifter in 1943 with Memorial Plaque and Letter
Description:

Menorah and memorial plaque in honor of Chayim Aryeh Seifter.  The plaque states that "'this Chanukah menorah was made in 1872 by the martyred R' Chayim Aryeh Zeifter,  who was a Shochet  (ritual slaughterer),  cantor, and Mohel (one who performs ritual circumcisions).  He was born in Myslenice, Krakow region, in 1859 and was killed by the Nazis in Auschwitz in 1942."

Letter written by Jacob Seifter, son of Chayim Afryeh Seifter,  donating his father's menorah to YIVO and describing the menorah created by his father in 1872. While expressing his pain at being parted from his father's handiwork, he also states that he needs to donate the menorah to a place where it will be secure for future generations. Written from Cleveland, Ohio.   1943.
