Title:
Letter from Yizhak Grunbaum about the Kehillah issue in Eastern Poland
Description:
Letter from Yizhak Grunbaum of the National-Jewish Club of Sejm Representatives about the Kehillah issue in Eastern Poland.  The vice president of the senate has already chaired two meetings on the status of the Jewish communities in the border areas of the former Congress Poland.  In 1919, it had been decided that the earlier tsarist guidelines should be continued. But this policy would threaten the autonomy  of these Jewish communities. He calls upon the Jewish community to do everything it can to oppose this policy, which would bring back some negative aspects of former Jewish communal life under the tsars, such as the “korobka” tax. He suggests that telegrams be sent  to the Ministry of Education, which is in charge of this issue. Though the desire for Jewish communal control of all their needs based on free elections cannot be satisfied at present, it is crucial that they retain whatever they can in terms of their rights.
