Note to a rabbi from a man who has fallen on hard times in Palestine

Kvitl (written request to rabbi asking for a blessing or advice) to Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher in Graetz (Grodzisk Wielkopolski) from Refuel Dovid ben Sara in Safed.  Eight years ago he left Romania for Palestine because of anti-Jewish decrees and false accusations against Jews. He had brought with him funds for business or real estate investment purposes, and opened a yard-goods ("shnit skhoyre") shop, but [the business did not do well] and he has lost everything. He asks the rabbi to pray for him and to inscribe him in his "book of remembrance." He also expresses his concern for the welfare of  his wife, Sheyndl daughter of Chaya, and his children..
