Gershon Sirota was born in Podolia in 1874. He was a noted cantor, concert singer, and recording celebrity. His first appointment as a cantor was in Odessa. He also served as cantor at the Great Synagogue of Odessa. In 1908, he became cantor of the Tlomackie Street Synagogue in Warsaw, but left this position in 1927 for a concert career. In 1935, he became cantor of the Nozyk Synagogue, also in Warsaw. He died in the Warsaw ghetto with his family in 1943
