Zygmunt Turkow was a member of the Turkow theatrical family, which included brothers Shloyme Zalmen, Jonas, and Mark (Marek), and Yitskhok Ber Turkow-Grudberg. He performed briefly in the Teatr Polski in Warsaw and by 1917 was working with the Kaminski troupe. He married Ida Kaminska the following year. From 1924-1928, with Ida Kaminska, he directed the Varshaver Yidisher Kunst-teater (VYKT). He collaborated with various theatrical companies in Poland, including the Vilna Troupe, from 1929-1938. He also worked in film. In 1940, he emigrated to South America, and in 1952, settled in Israel, where he continued to be active in the theater world.
