Postcard from Khaykel Lunski's father Shmuel Oysher Hilel and Khaykel Lunski in Vilna to their son/brother Sliomka, who is serving in the artillery of the tsar's army, 1908. The senior Lunski tells his son to take comfort and inspiration from that day's Torah portion and not to lose sight of God. He thanks him for the letter he sent via another soldier and asks him to let him know if he received the 70 kopeks that Elke Zlote was asked to give him. Khaykel Lunski commiserates with his brother and mentions the tears everyone shed when he left for his tour of duty. He is nervous that he hasn't received confirmation that Sliomka has received money sent. The next day he will purchase "bukvas" (letters of the alphabet?) but is afraid to send him the kit in the mail.
