Title:
Appeal for help from the board of the Gmilas Khesed Bank (Free Loan Bank) in Zyrardow
Description:
An appeal for help from the board of the Gmilas Khesed Bank (Free Loan Bank), Zyrardow to the Zyrardow Progressive Society, a landsmanshaft in America. As the only Jewish credit institution in the entire town, the Gmilas Khesed Bank keeps afloat Jewish artisans and retailers and other workers "right down to water carriers." The bank has managed to survive even as others have gone under largely because of its dedicated board, composed of "people who hold themselves far from politics" and thus are trusted by everyone. But now with the worsening economic situation for Jews in Poland, the bank finds itself in crisis. Its board requests that the landsmanshaft organize a fundraising drive on their behalf.
