Poor householders, down on their luck and broken-hearted, who have no bread at home, much less medicine, and who can't pay even the smallest fee." Every year the board of the hospital counts on donations made on the two Sabbaths when the Torah portions of Mishpatim and Terumah are read in the synagogue, which happens to fall on the anniversary of the founding of the hospital.
