Rabbi Chaim Oyzer Grodzienski (1863-1940) was a religious scholar and community leader, a major 20th-century Jewish rabbinic authority and one of the most prominent leaders of Polish and Lithuanian Orthodox Jewry. He studied at the yeshivas of Eishishok and Volozhin. He married the granddaughter of Rabbi Israel Salanter and was appointed the religious court judge and head of the Bet Din in Vilna and was considered the spiritual leader of the Vilna Jewish religious community. He served as the head of the Tzedakah Gedolah department of the Vilna Jewish Community Council. He was one of the founders of Agudas Israel in 1912. He died in the early stages of World War II, shortly after the Russian invasion of Vilna

The letter is addressed to Rabbi Chaim Oyzer Grodzienski of Vilna, Poland.
