The Mizrakh was placed on the eastern wall of most synagogues, pointing to the East, in the direction of Jerusalem. Shiviti refers to the verse ‘Shiviti Hashem L’Negdi Tamid’ (approx. trans: G’d is Before Me Always) which is displayed in most traditional synagogues.
