Report on a Jewish Colonization Association trip through Galicia
Report on a Jewish Colonization Association fact-finding trip through Galicia, including visits to Stanislawow, Kolomea, Gwozdziec, Horodenka, Tluste, Zaleszcyki, and Tarnow.
The author of this report, Alexander Moritz Simon, a Jewish banker, merchant and philanthropist form Hannover, Germany, traveled through Galicia in 1900 in the company of Dr. M. Friedlaender, the president of the Isrealitische Allianz in Vienna and D. Rotter. The purpose of the trip was to assess the success of the loan banks, schools, carpentry factories and hosiery knitting mills recently established by the JCA in Galicia, and to assess conditions of the Jews in Galicia. Simon finds that the recently established institutions are bearing fruit and makes several proposals for additional projects.
