Gershon Sirota was born in Podolia in 1874. He was a noted cantor, concert singer, and recording celebrity. His first appointment as a cantor was in Odessa. He also served as cantor at the Great Synagogue of Odessa. In 1908, he became cantor of the Tlomackie Street Synagogue in Warsaw, but left this position in 1927 for a concert career. In 1935, he became cantor of the Nozyk Synagogue, also in Warsaw. He died in the Warsaw ghetto with his family in 1943

Description: Contract and terms of agreement form for the employment of Gershon Sirota at the Great Synagogue of Vilna. Form was entirely handwritten in Hebrew and dated May 21, 1903. Includes ten demands on the part of the synagogue prayer committee and ten employment conditions on the part of Sirota. Also includes Sirota's personal signature. Stationery used by synagogue prayer committee has various titles in Russian, which appears at the top of cover page
