Title:
Fundraising letter for Hebrew newspaper
Description:
Letter from Prof. Mojzesz Schorr, Dr. Aharon Soloveichik, and Akiva Ravitz-Slutzki, Warsaw, on behalf of the Committee for the Hebrew Newspaper in Poland, to Mr. [Israel] Matz of New York, a philanthropist, Zionist, and patron of Hebrew literature and scholarship. They request a donation of $5,000-6,000 dollars to launch a new Hebrew newspaper in Poland. The newspaper would include news from Palestine, as well as news of local affairs in Poland. It would be printed in vowelized Hebrew so that it could easily be read by those with only a limited background in modern Hebrew, and would therefore be a useful educational tool. The publication would also unite all of Polish Jewry by being open to all parties and groups and eschewing any form of partisan divisiveness. This prototype of a Hebrew newspaper could also be emulated in other countries of the Jewish Diaspora, including North America.
