Abraham Goldfaden (1840 - 1908) poet, playwright, stage director and actor. Authored plays and operettas in Yiddish and is considered the father of the modern Yiddish theater.

Goldfaden was born in the Russian empire. His plays were performed on stage in various Polish cities,  including Lodz, Oswiecim, Sanok, Strij and others places. The YIVO Archives also holds a handwritten manuscript of Bar Kochba which was performed by David Beigelman, the director of the Lodz Yiddish Theater, in 1926.
